Residential Osmington Bay

Welcome to the summer term!

We have already been working incredibly hard in Hazel class.

Year 6 are ready to face their sats..... we are so proud of them and know they are going to do brilliantly.

Year 5 have been learning lots about Shakespeare and in particular, the story of Macbeth - we shall be performing this to Year 6 soon.

Year 5 have also been working hard to develop their understanding of shapes - we have considered the differences between regular and irregular shapes. We have also learnt the terms of translation and reflection. We really enjoyed creating our own irregular shapes and drew some of these in our school grounds.

We are very much looking forward to some special times later this term. We have the residential to look forward to, a forest schools session and a visit to a local Tudor house.

As the children may have told you, our over-arching topic is the Tudors - this has proved to be very popular! We love learning about the Monarch's and have been quite surprised by some of the things they got up to!

Here is one of our favourite songs about Henry VIII's wives! :-)

Macbeth

This half term our topic is the vicious Vikings.

We have had lots of fun with this so far - we love how gory the Vikings were!

We particularly enjoyed thinking of our own Viking names & have created our own Viking display which we shall be adding too as we learn more about them.

In Literacy we are working towards creating our own Viking sagas based on 'The Saga of Biorn' - check back soon to see some examples.

Fire Safety

We enjoyed a visit from Hampshire Fire & Rescue Service.

They showed us lots of information and resources that have raised our awareness of how to keep ourselves and others safe around fires at home and about.

We also learnt about keeping safe on the roads and were really surprised by the amount of  young people involved in road accidents every week.

We are going to check our homes for fire hazards and make sure that our smoke alarms are tested!

Here are a couple of photos of our day:

Autumn Term 2

Welcome to Autumn Term 2 - time is going so quickly!

This half-term our learning shall be based upon The Titanic disaster.

Already the children have enjoyed becoming reporters, finding out as much information as they can about that terrible day, April 12, 1912.

Here are some photos of us in role as journalists - we had lots of fun and are looking forward to writing our newspaper articles of the disaster soon.

We have lots to look forward to this half-term, including a gospel vocal festival at the end of November.

Check back at our page soon to see some photos of this special occasion - we have really enjoyed learning and performing these special songs.

Journalists at work.

We had a great time dressing in bright clothing to raise awareness of road safety.

We know how to keep safe when out and about as the winter nights draw in.  :-)
