Adventurers Home Learning   Week/b: 13th July   Topic: Madagascar  - week 7

This is our last full week of work before the holidays!

This week we in literacy we are thinking about: sharing information we’ve learned about Madagascar

(Look back at previous videos if you are unsure about how to plan, write or proofread & edit your work!)

Monday (session 1):

PLAN your writing.

Use the planning sheet to help you plan your writing.

Remember you only need to jot down key words, and use pictures to remind you what you wanted to write about.

Tuesday (Session 2):

WRITE

Year 1s -  I’d like to see at least a sentence for each section.

Year 2s - you should be able to write 2 or 3 sentence paragraphs for each section

Spend up to an hour on this - there is time to finish it off tomorrow

Wednesday (Session 3):

Continue your writing.

If it’s finished then proofread and edit like we have for our other longwrites...

You should check that

  • You have used capital letters and full stops
  • Your sentences make sense
  • You’ve used connectives such as and, but, because, however etc.
  • you have used expanded noun phrases with exciting adjectives!
  • shown off any other skills you have learned in your writing!
  • spelt common exception words correctly.

Y1s - if you have been in school then do the spelling practice from Friday today and you will pick this up again tomorrow at school!

Thursday (Session 4):

Edit and proofread your writing if you haven’t already.

Then you can publish your leaflet.

Y1 - there is some simple paper to present your information on in the documents.

Y2 - YOu can choose whether to make a leaflet format or use the same paper as the Year 1s

Alternatively, you might like to turn your writing into a powerpoint presentation about Madagascar!

Friday (Session 5):

Finish presenting your work.

Once finished share it with someone else and ask them what they think of it!!

Or you could do some spellings practice from your dinosaurs

CEW dinosaur words practice

Y1 pick 5 words, Y2 pick 8 words to practice

This week in maths we are thinking about... revision and applying our knowledge

Every day this week there is a maths activity mat which will get you to think about a range of maths skills.

Year 1s - there are 3 versions which get trickier so do the first page and then if you find it easy go on to the next!

Year 2s - Some of you will find this easy so if you’d like something a bit trickier after you’ve practised your key skills then have a look at this webpage - https://nrich.maths.org/9130

There are a range of problems to choose from and I want you to think about how you will approach the problem to solve it. Talk to a grownup about hat your plan of action is and then carry it out! Remember you can use pictures or model it to help you think round the problems! Choose a different one each day!

This week’s subject focus isLockdown project!

Monday (session 1):

You’re going to create a Lockdown scrapbook this week to record this unusual year..

A gentle start today so just decorate your front cover.

Tuesday (Session 2):

Today create  a page that explains what has happened this year.. you could do it like a poster with fact boxes or a comic strip, or just draw a picture. It’s completely up to you! It needs to show that coronavirus spread around the world. It made lots of people poorly  and we all stayed at home to help stop it from spreading too quickly. I’ve included a book for children in the documents that might help with your understanding

Wednesday (Session 3):

Today we’re going to think about all the amazing learning you have done in Lockdown - Use the template page to record the learning achievements you are most proud of from the time we have spent learning at home.

Thursday (Session 4):

Today we’re going to create a page to remember all the special family time we have enjoyed while everyone’s been at home. Use the bubbles on the document to draw or write about different things you have enjoyed doing with your family, perhaps walks in the countryside, BBQs, playing in the river, bike rides, spending time with your pets, baking,  VE day celebrations etc.

Friday (Session 5):

Today I would like you to design your own certificate to record your lockdown housepoints…I have included a template to start you off but you can design your own. Send me a picture and then I will send you your grand total to complete it!!

We will be rewarding you for all your housepoints when we come back in September!!

Can you sketch a version of your favourite picture from yesterday? Remember how Ms O’Toole taught you to do hatching and crosshatching, stippling and scribbling at school. Can you use any of these skills in your picture? (Watch the video for a refresher!)

Wednesday (Session 3): Today you’re going to do another version of your favourite example of equality art (or if you prefer you can choose a different one to focus on) I’d like you to explore colour, paint if you have some or just colour if you don’t. Think carefully about your colour choices, if you’re painting then try exploring mixing black or white in to create different shades of your colours. (Watch the video for a demonstration)

Thursday (Session 4):

Today I’d like you to think about collage. I have made a short example video. You will need to collect some bits and pieces for this.. I know you will all have access to different things so here are some ideas of what to look for: different coloured bit of paper, old magazines/newspapers, other materials like old fabric scraps, tinfoil, wrapping paper, buttons, sequins, wool etc Pretty much anything can go into a collage. Use your resources to create your own version of either your favourite picture again or a different one from Monday’s selection.

Friday (Session 5):

Create your own equality art using any medium you like..

We will zoom at 3pm so you can all show off your creations! Choose your favourite piece that you have made from the week to share J

Have a look at what some of your classmates have been up to... please send me a picture of you working or playing and we can add you to our slideshow of smiley faces!

Draw the animal in the home you have designed and label all the features, e.g. a pond for a frog to swim, flies for it to eat, a fresh stream for it to drink, mud for it to sleep in. If you can, research in books or the internet facts about the animal.

Dear Adventurers,

Today we start a new adventure together as we learn how to work as a team to carry on learning while we cannot be at school!  Below you will find my plan for you for this week and any resources you might need. The videos will be found in our Adventurers section of the Video Resource Centre (https://east-meon-ce-primary-school.primarysite.media/playlist/adventurers).

Please, please, please just try your best and you can email me at any time (stephaniet@eastmeonprimary.co.uk) if you're stuck, or having problems of any kind and I will do my best to help you out. DO NOT feel bad if some days you don't get everything done or you have other things to do as these are difficult times and we are all just doing our best! You need to complete the tasks in the order of the sessions as they build on each other but you do not have to stick to the prescribed days so if you want to have a 'mathsy' day and do more than 1 maths session, that is absolutely fine! If anyone needs a work book to record their work in then please let me know and I'll do my best to get one to you as soon as I can!

There is also a Reading Bingo challenge for you to work through over the next half term. There are certificates for anyone who manages a full house!

I am looking forward to seeing the work you are most proud of, so if you find something tricky but persevere to get the hang of it or if you really enjoy a particular task and feel you've created something awesome then please ask your grown-ups to take a photo of it or record a video of you sharing your work to send to me!

If you listened to my earlier message (scroll down if you haven't!) then you'll know I'm tracking house points at home and will be awarding them for all the work you tell me about! Let me know how you get on!!

Lots of love to you all,

Stay safe,

Mrs Perkins

Missing you all, Mrs Perkins

This week’s subject focus isHoliday fun!!

Monday:

Write a recount about your Easter Day. Try to use time words like First, Next and Then to order the events of the day.

Tuesday:

Draw a picture of any Easter eggs that you received.

Can you write about which was your favourite and why?

Write a story about the Easter Bunny on a big adventure.

It’s a good idea to draw a simple plan of what will happen in your story before you begin writing. Draw a picture for each part.

Thursday:

Go for a walk or hunt around your house. Write down all the numbers that you can spot.

Then try grouping them, perhaps by odd and even, or by how many tens in them, or how many digits.

You could even try adding some of them together to practice your addition

Friday:

Have a look at the video resource centre on the school website (it’s under Learning Spaces) Choose one of Mrs Smith’s craft videos to have a go at!

Activities for Easter Holidays (week 1)

Adventurers have been identifying spring flowers

As part of this half term's Victorians topic, Adventurers enjoyed a VIctorian Day. We did our morning lessons in a Victorian style and then enjoyed a visit from Petersfield Museum who taught us more about life as a Victorian school child and also showed us some Victorian artefacts.  Mrs Perkins was particularly interested in the 'thumbstocks' designed to deter children from fiddling with things while the teacher was talking!!
