Adventurers Home Learning   Week/b: 18th May      Topic: An American Dream  - week 5

Mrs Smith has made us another video with a different idea for some equality art. You could use her idea if you're struggling to think of something to do for your art challenge on Friday!   Don’t forget to do your Reading Bingo Challenge too!!

This week we in literacy we are thinking aboutour own persuasive writing!

Monday (session 1):

PLANNING OUR LONGWRITE - Watch my video on how to make notes to plan your writing then make your plan.

Tuesday (Session 2):

TIME FOR WRITING - Watch my video on turning your plan into a proper piece of persuasive writing. I’ll also outline expectations for Year 1 and Year 2

Wednesday (Session 3):

Take any time you need to complete your first draft of your persuasive writing

Then watch my video on EDITING & PROOFREADING

Once you’ve done that you can try PUBLISHING by writing it out in your best handwriting or typing it up with all your changes included.

Thursday (Session 4):

If you’ve finished your longwrite and published it then watch my video on the suffixes -ment and -ness and carry out the task at the end.

If you haven’t finished  - use today to finish it off and don’t worry about the suffix work!

PLEASE send me a photo of your finished persuasive write (or the file if you’ve typed it up) as I want to see who is going to manage to persuade me over to their idea.

Friday (Session 5):

Look back at all the words we have practiced this half term. Check through your writing for any of these words and check you have spelt them correctly correct them if you need to.

Y2 - you have one more set of words to practice in the wordsearch. And then spellcheck your persuasive writing.

This week in maths we are thinking about.. Shape

Monday (session 1):

Watch my video on 2d shape properties and go on a shape hunt. Photograph or draw the shapes you found.

Tuesday (Session 2):

Write a description of each of the shapes you spotted. Remember to use the mathematical language we practiced yesterday.

Wednesday (Session 3):

Y1 - Please do page 6 (the rocket) from the pdf and then it is optional if you wish to do some more.

Y2 - 2d shape reasoning problems

Thursday (Session 4):

3D shapes Watch my video about their properties and go on a shape hunt. Photograph or collect the shapes ready for tomorrow.

Friday (Session 5):

Like we did on Tuesday, create a poster with a description of each of the 3d objects you collected or spotted. Remember to use the mathematical language we practiced yesterday. You can either stick on pictures of the shapes you found or try to draw a picture of the objects (don’t worry about drawing it in 3d as that is VERY tricky! Your descriptions should describe your shape for us instead!)

This week’s subject focus isArt

Monday (session 1):

Have a look at my powerpoint with examples of art depicting equality (YOU DO NOT NEED TO PRINT THIS OUT! JUST VIEW IT ON A SCREEN - you may wish to print your favourite picture to refer to through the week but you don’t have to!) Choose your favourite and write a sentence (Year 1) or a paragraph (Year 2) explaining why you like that particular one.

Tuesday (Session 2):

Can you sketch a version of your favourite picture from yesterday? Remember how Ms O’Toole taught you to do hatching and crosshatching, stippling and scribbling at school. Can you use any of these skills in your picture? (Watch the video for a refresher!)

Wednesday (Session 3): Today you’re going to do another version of your favourite example of equality art (or if you prefer you can choose a different one to focus on) I’d like you to explore colour, paint if you have some or just colour if you don’t. Think carefully about your colour choices, if you’re painting then try exploring mixing black or white in to create different shades of your colours. (Watch the video for a demonstration)

Thursday (Session 4):

Today I’d like you to think about collage. I have made a short example video. You will need to collect some bits and pieces for this.. I know you will all have access to different things so here are some ideas of what to look for: different coloured bit of paper, old magazines/newspapers, other materials like old fabric scraps, tinfoil, wrapping paper, buttons, sequins, wool etc Pretty much anything can go into a collage. Use your resources to create your own version of either your favourite picture again or a different one from Monday’s selection.

Friday (Session 5):

Create your own equality art using any medium you like..

We will zoom at 3pm so you can all show off your creations! Choose your favourite piece that you have made from the week to share J

Have a look at what some of your classmates have been up to... please send me a picture of you working or playing and we can add you to our slideshow of smiley faces!

Some of your VE day celebrations...

A habitat is the place where an animal lives and includes the other plants and animals that live there, along with the water, weather and soil. Draw the animal in the home you have designed and label all the features, e.g. a pond for a frog to swim, flies for it to eat, a fresh stream for it to drink, mud for it to sleep in. If you can, research in books or the internet facts about the animal.

Dear Adventurers,

Today we start a new adventure together as we learn how to work as a team to carry on learning while we cannot be at school!  Below you will find my plan for you for this week and any resources you might need. The videos will be found in our Adventurers section of the Video Resource Centre (https://east-meon-ce-primary-school.primarysite.media/playlist/adventurers).

Please, please, please just try your best and you can email me at any time (stephaniet@eastmeonprimary.co.uk) if you're stuck, or having problems of any kind and I will do my best to help you out. DO NOT feel bad if some days you don't get everything done or you have other things to do as these are difficult times and we are all just doing our best! You need to complete the tasks in the order of the sessions as they build on each other but you do not have to stick to the prescribed days so if you want to have a 'mathsy' day and do more than 1 maths session, that is absolutely fine! If anyone needs a work book to record their work in then please let me know and I'll do my best to get one to you as soon as I can!

There is also a Reading Bingo challenge for you to work through over the next half term. There are certificates for anyone who manages a full house!

I am looking forward to seeing the work you are most proud of, so if you find something tricky but persevere to get the hang of it or if you really enjoy a particular task and feel you've created something awesome then please ask your grown-ups to take a photo of it or record a video of you sharing your work to send to me!

If you listened to my earlier message (scroll down if you haven't!) then you'll know I'm tracking house points at home and will be awarding them for all the work you tell me about! Let me know how you get on!!

Lots of love to you all,

Stay safe,

Mrs Perkins

I hope you all managed to have a good Easter weekend! Here are some ideas for you to have a go at this week

Missing you all, Mrs Perkins

This week’s subject focus isHoliday fun!!

Monday:

Write a recount about your Easter Day. Try to use time words like First, Next and Then to order the events of the day.

Tuesday:

Draw a picture of any Easter eggs that you received.

Can you write about which was your favourite and why?

Wednesday:

Write a story about the Easter Bunny on a big adventure.

It’s a good idea to draw a simple plan of what will happen in your story before you begin writing. Draw a picture for each part.

Thursday:

Go for a walk or hunt around your house. Write down all the numbers that you can spot.

Then try grouping them, perhaps by odd and even, or by how many tens in them, or how many digits.

You could even try adding some of them together to practice your addition

Friday:

Have a look at the video resource centre on the school website (it’s under Learning Spaces) Choose one of Mrs Smith’s craft videos to have a go at!

As part of this half term's Victorians topic, Adventurers enjoyed a VIctorian Day. We did our morning lessons in a Victorian style and then enjoyed a visit from Petersfield Museum who taught us more about life as a Victorian school child and also showed us some Victorian artefacts.  Mrs Perkins was particularly interested in the 'thumbstocks' designed to deter children from fiddling with things while the teacher was talking!!
